Occupational License

Any person operating a business, trade, profession, occupation, vocation, or calling within the incorporated limits of the Town of Stonewall must file for an Occupational License. To register with the DeSoto Parish Sales & Use Tax click on the following link Parish E-File.

Any person who goes door-to-door, or place to place, or store to store, exposing and selling merchandise must file for a Peddlers' License (using the same application as occupational license).

Road Permits

All loads exceeding 16,000 lbs. traveling on the Town of Stonewall Road System must have road permits. Any load that exceeds 58,000 lbs. must contact the Town Hall for permission from the mayor. A copy of the Road Permit Application is located at the bottom of this page.

Mobile home movers and cement truck drivers must notify the Town Hall before going down Town roads. All cement truck loads must not exceed 8 yards. 

If you do not have a permit, you will be issued a citation for traveling on the Town Roads.

If traveling strictly on U.S. Highway 171 & Highway 3276, a Town of Stonewall Road Permit is not needed. If you have any questions, contact the Town Hall at (318) 925.9338 or email to townhall@thetownofstonewall.com.

Building Permits

Any new commercial or residential construction or additions/modifications of existing structures must apply for a building permit. 

All new commercial construction, exterior design, must be approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission before construction. Please contact the Town Clerk at townclerk@thetownofstonewall.com.

Citizens can go online to www.mygovernmentonline.org (link is at the bottom of the page) to apply for building permits, submit files, download inspection reports and approved plans, check the status of a permit, and much more. 

Any property with new construction that is not located in an approved subdivision must have a plat listing the amount of acreage for the parcel of land from the DeSoto Parish Tax Assessor's Office. 

If you are installing a culvert: Minimum Size of Culvert 18 inches by 20 foot long. Some culverts may need to be larger.

ALCOHOL BEVERAGE PERMIT APPLICATION

All applications for Alcohol Beverage Permits must be submitted to the office located at the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Government Plaza, Stonewall Town Hall, 1746 US Highway 171, Stonewall, La., 71078 by the first business day of each month between the hours of 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. All applications must be presented to the Council at the regular meeting for consideration.

Note: All employees are required to have an ABO card. These must be obtained from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office. Permit holders are responsible for making sure that all employees have a valid card.

All applicants must file for a State Liquor License through the State Alcohol Beverage Control Board in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For more information, go to https://atc.louisiana.gov or contact their office at (225) 925-4041.

OFF-PREMISES ADVERTISING PERMITS

This permit is required prior to erecting, relocating, or altering any off-premises advertising sign in the Town of Stonewall. The Permit Application Packet can be found at the bottom of this page. SPECIAL EVENT PERMIT

 

The Town of Stonewall’s Special Events Ordinance (No. 55-2014) establishes guidelines and a permit process for hosting parades, festivals, and other special events on town roads and town property.

Event organizers must submit an application (located below) at least 90 days in advance, receive Town Council approval, and provide proof of insurance naming the Town of Stonewall as an additional insured. Requirements also include hiring off-duty law enforcement for traffic and crowd control, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring that all event activities and themes are appropriate for the community. By setting these standards, the Town aims to promote enjoyable, well-organized events that enhance public safety and community spirit.
